About Martin

​

Martin Asker has been working as a sport medicine therapist, licensed Naprapath and strength & conditioning coach for many elite sport clubs and athletes including  several handball teams for over twenty years. He has a PhD in medicine (sports medicine epidemiology) from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, specializing in the shoulder injury prevention and rehabilitation. Martin is head of the Handball Research Group at Sophiahemmet University, which research focus on injury prevention, prognosis and performance in handball. He has been part of the medical team for several Swedish national handball teams and is currently working with the Swedish Women's team. He is a member of the medical committee of the Swedish Handball Federation. Martin has written several peer-review articles and book chapters with a focus on overhead head athletes and, handball medicine and science.

CLINICAL SERVICES

Martin is working both with diagnosing and rehabilitation of injured players and with players looking to increase their handball performance. He also performs medical screenings for handball clubs.

 

Martin is seeing patients and athletes at Into Motion Sports Clinic at Nybrogatan 53B in Stockholm. He also works with video consultations for those who has difficulty traveling to Stockholm. COURSES

Martin has more than 5000 teaching hours on bachelor, master and doctoral level, and he has been running his well renowned course "The overhead athlete's shoulder" for over a decade. This highly practical course covers shoulder anatomy and biomechanics, assessment and objective measures of both the healthy and the injured athlete, diagnostics, rehabilitation and return to sport as well as injury prevention. Whether you work with overhead athletes on a daily basis or more occasionally, this course will enhance your clinical reasoning and skills.

The 2-day course includes 6 modules:

Module 1: Biomechanics in overhead sports

Module 2: Objective measures of the shoulder 

Module 3: Shoulder injuries seen in the overhead athlete

Module 4: Assessment of the injured shoulder

Module 5: Rehabilitation of shoulder injuries in overhead athletes

Module 6: Sport specific return to sport after shoulder injuries
